Xarelto is available in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth. The active ingredient is rivaroxaban. XARELTO 20MG contains rivaroxaban, which belongs to the anticoagulant class of drugs. An embolism is a blood clot that plugs an artery (blood vessel), and if the embolism occurs in the brain’s arteries, it can result in a stroke. Anticoagulants minimize the risk of embolism by reducing the time it takes for blood to clot.
In patients with or without hip or knee replacement surgery, this drug is used to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in leg veins) and pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs). It also helps people with non-valvular atrial fibrillation avoid blood clots in their brain (stroke) and other bodily blood arteries (an abnormal heartbeat).
Rivaroxaban inhibits the tendency of blood to clot by reducing the activity of blood clotting factor (factor Xa). Bleeding in the eyes, nose, gums, stomach, rectum, or vagina are the most prevalent side effects of this medication.
If you have a bleeding issue, you should not use this medication. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any serious kidney or liver condition, tell your doctor before taking this prescription. Children and teenagers under the age of 18 are not advise to take this medication.
